i got burned. i got burned good.
So, last night was the annual general meeting for the HURL, so we got to spend roughly three hours discussing things like the brand new Halifax juniors scene, the status of Nationals preparation for next year, and, of course, analysing every last minutia of the annual report and budget.
It was during the endless budget discussion that we reached the point where someone asked what the item marked “Thanks to the Board of Directors” meant. After a short discussion, it was noted that this was actually a typo and it was meant to say “Thanks from the Board of Directors” and this was money that was being alloted towards gifts for HURL volunteers.
Well, someone then asked what sort of gifts they were talking about. Ed mentions that in past years they used to give little plaques and the like to show their appreciation for service to the league.
Now, when I first started working on the HURL website, I was given one of these mementos. And me being me, I just have to mention this fact, because what makes a conversation better? Turning it around to yourself, of course.
So I pipe up, “They gave me an engraved mug that said, ‘Because No One Else Would.’”
From the back of the room, Mike says:
“Isn’t that what it says on the inside of Beth’s wedding ring?”
