quick question
Does anyone else feel their soul die a little when they see the Wendy’s commercial with “Blister in the Sun” in the background?
Am I the only one?
‘Cause it makes me feel dirty inside.

I am holding a little contest - you may be interested. You seem really funny. And I am not saying that because of the review. Loved the quote from your Dad.

Jesus Tapdancing Christ I thought I was the only one. I saw it for the first time yesterday and about died. Because, seriously, Violent Femmes is selling out now to WENDY’S? Kasabian did it for Nabisco, Spoon did it for someone, I don’t remember.
My soul is crushed.

I think it should made illegal for a corporation to ruin a song by putting it in a commercial.

Leesa: Thanks! (Not certain about the contest — what would I have to do… other than be my usual charming self?)
Stacy: Spoon I was a little more forgiving, because it was for satellite radio — stuff that actually delivers freaking music. But the Violent Femmes… shining lights of my early years… selling themselves for fast food… sob.
Neil: I have to admit, I agree. Take the crappy songs — let them be your cannon fodder. (God knows, there are enough of them.)

Gah. I hate that. I thought Madison Ave had gotten the message that “Gen X’ers” (for serious want of a better term) hate being manipulated into buying something by having the music of our angst filled youth fill the background of a 30 second spot. Our generation seems to take that sort of thing personally and tends to veer away, not towards what they are trying to sell.
My other favorite right now? The Pepsi commercial that has a modified version of Plastic Bertrand’s “Ca Plane Pour Moi”. The thing is, I can’t hear the French version without hearing The Damned’s “Jet Boy Jet Girl” in my head. Which makes that Pepsi they’re trying to sell me an entirely different type of drink…

another fine reason I largely stay away from TV…

wen: That’s EXACTLY it. They should be smarter, because using a song like that for that purpose doesn’t make people associate the good feelings of the song with the product — it makes us mad at them for SULLYING the song in the first place. Honestly, I did eat at Wendy’s occasionally, but this has actually turned me off it. (That and the ever-drier burgers…)
deezee: And why I prefer to watch TV on the DVR — FAST FORWARD!

I first heard it on the radio and was horrified.
Then I saw it on tv…and…well…
Finally, someone understands.

To go back in time to the last century - I was absolutely irate when a ketchup company bogarded “Anticipation” (Carly Simon) for a TV commercial. I don’t even like the song that much, but I KNEW that from then on every time I heard that song I would think of that friggin’ ketchup (catsup)..

Oh… it’s gonna take a long time to clean up “Blister in the Sun” for me… bastards.

[...] when I saw them in AdSense it was just kind of like hearing a favorite old song turned into a bad fast food commercial or something. OK, maybe not THAT bad… but it’s the same [...]

AAHHHH! I just saw the aforementioned commercial for the first time - those BASTARDS!
