spring dance

Today is one of my favourite days of the year. Today is hope. Today is promise. Today is sunshine breaking over a rain-slicked highway. Today is the Friday morning of a hell-week but there’s only eight hours to go until the weekend and you don’t have any chores to do this weekend and you are gonna sit on your ass in your pyjamas and watch Battlestar Galactica while eating peanut butter straight out of the jar.
Today is March 1st. The month that Spring happens.
Yes. We do have a snowstorm coming tomorrow. Fuck it.
I’M DOING THE SPRING DANCE!
[Exuberantly-performed Spring Dance. The dance concludes with three somersaults.]
Yeah! That’s the Spring Dance! What’s that? Again?! Heck yeah!
[Even-more-exuberantly-performed Spring Dance. The dance concludes with three backwards somersaults and the splits.]
And now the pandas!

Oh YEEEEEEEAH! C’MON! EVERYBODY NOW!
[Internationally-performed Spring Dance at varying levels of exuberance. The dance concludes with the Netherlands doing three backwards somersaults, Qatar doing the splits, and Finland throwing in some jazz hands while holding sparklers. Nice addition, Finland!]
Awesome.

Don’t expend all of your energy today, Sween. You’re invited to my internet birthday party tomorrow and I would really, really, really appreciate it if you’d do the Spring Dance to entertain my other guests. If you do, that will be present enough for me!

I was all excited to see patches of grass through the snow this week, with outlovely temeratures of above minus 10. And now we too are getting the snow.
Thats ok..we KNOW Spring will arrive. And today March entered like the sweetest wittle lambykins ever.
Dance Sween dance!!!!

We, in Toronto, are getting that storm…
It really sucks. Don’t go to work.

I do the “Elaine” style spring dance where I do a lot of air punching and kicky, jerky movements. Classically trained in ballet, but never took Spring Dance training. So there I jerk. Awkwardly.
And aw, you Canadians (you and Mike) are so ADORABLE when you spell things with the “ou.” Favourite. Colour.
Aw.

Ooo! Ooo! I want to be a part of the Spring Dance too!
[Zeus flips onto his back and spins around with legs contorting in various directions. He flips into a standing position, shouting in a high octave:]
“Everybody dance now!”
[Zeus shakes his hips from side to side, tail rhythmically gyrating to the heavy bass.]
“Everybody dance now!”

Suldog: You got it. One Spring Dance, coming up.
Alison: And if you keep dancing, you miss all the crappy weather. And it’s aerobic, and that’s healthy!
Otto: Unfortunately, the storm is hitting us late in the day, mostly at night, hence no work avoidance.
JN: Oh, there is plenty of room for plenty of jerky dancing in the Spring Dance. You keep boogying!
(And to please you further, further Canadian words and phrases! “Flavour”, “apologise”, “colour”, “x-y-ZED”, “neighbourhood”… and so on.)
Zeus: Wooo! Rock it out, Zeus!

“March comes in like a lion, goes out like a lamb.” SPRING! Every year around this time, I am in awe that I somehow manage to survive another winter. I love spring and feel you happy spring dance from my head to my toes. The panda is too adorable.

The panda is pretty awesome, isn’t it?
So is surviving winter…

Is there alcohol involved in the Spring Dance? Because if there is, I’m in. Just a day late. Whatever.
Spring here = mud. With tulips. Yay!

lightspring, you can add as much alcohol to the Spring Dance as you want.
The Spring Dance is flexible that way.
