this is your cat on drugs

the small one on drugs

The Small One is a wee bit out of it right now.

After an evening of very un-Small-One-like behaviour, yesterday morning we got to partake in a Very Special Easter Egg hunt.

“Very Special” in that it wasn’t Easter.

And the eggs were replaced by small droplets of pee.

Very smelly pee.

So we took him to the vet.

The verdict? He has crystals, which — insert parental warning here — the vet says makes him feel like he is “peeing razor blades”.

[Collective wince.]

So he’s on some pain meds and we just bought a few flats of special wet food that cost as much as our groceries for a week.

(He’s totally worth it.)

He’s already feeling better, but his medication is definitely making him even dopier than normal.

Last night, he spent an hour sitting on the living room floor staring at the leg of the coffee table.

And it wasn’t even doing anything.

I checked.

Periodically.

(You never can tell with that coffee table.)

“mr. looper” or “how i learned to quietly cry at my desk”

mr. looper

Sesame Street was such a huge part of my life growing up. I grew up watching it through the glory years of the 70s — “This is near… this is far…”, “Would you like to buy an ‘O’?”, “OnetwothreefourFIVE sixseveneightNINEten, eleventwe-el-el-el-el-el-ELVE!”

(And the fact that Monsterpiece Theatre actually did “Waiting For Elmo” is one of the coolest things ever. Muppets + Beckett = comedy genius!)

Everyone on that show were are like family to me: Bert and Ernie, Big Bird, Kermit, Grover, Oscar, Cookie Monster, Herry, Oscar, Snuffleupagus. And don’t forget the humans either: Gordon, Susan, David, Maria, Luiz, Bob, Jon-Jon… and Mr. Hooper.

But… Mr. Hooper dying is one the the very saddest things… ever. So, of course, Ms. Collins had to bring it up. On a FRIDAY, no less!

(And I’m not the only one that sees this as unconscionable.)

Don’t watch if you’re not ready for blubbering.

Thanks a lot, Ms. Collins. I’m ruined for the rest of the day.

And buy this book: Sesame Street Unpaved. It’s one of my all-time favs.

feel like getting your heart broken?

The Saddest Thing I Own is one of the… well, saddest things I’ve found online in a long time.

But, it’s also oddly cathartic*.

Currently, a picture I sent into them is on their site (which I’ve posted here before).

Damn. I think I need some cute pictures of hedgehogs right now to cheer me up.

[Plaintive typing sounds.]

No! That doesn’t help!

[Manic typing sounds.]

Ahhhh. That’s better.

* Just a quick note — “cathartic” is definitely being used as an adjective here, NOT a noun.

Or is it?

[Frantic shuffling noise. Sound of chair being knocked over. Door slammed. Sound of running footsteps. Scene.]
